 Latvians at Finnish Open
On this weekend in Tampere, Finland was 25th Finnish Open competition. There was some darts players from Latvia: Zanis Buklovskis, Ronalds Mezals, Juris Aleksans, Sergejs Balan, Kaspars Abramenko, Lauris Karavics, Egils Vitols, Ligita Vilks, Ieva Brikmane.
Men`s singles (213 players):
Most successful start was for Zanis Buklovskis who stays at 17th place. At first game in groups he made comeback from 0-2 and win the game 3-2. Then he faces some Finnish player against whom he lose at Estonian Open 2006 final and this time win 3-1. At the group final have 3-2 win over oponent and qualified to last 32. Then he faces Martin Atkins (ENG) - 9th on WDF ranking. Atkins won 3-0 - 1st leg finished with 14th darts, 2nd with 19th dart and 3rd with 14th. On second leg Zanis had a chance to finish with 15th dart but miss the bull, then Atkins miss the double, but Zanis was unlucky for doubles again to win leg against world class professional.
Martin Atkins won 25th Finnish open with an impressive win 6-2 over the new World champion from Netherland - Jelle Klaasen. Latvians made grate support for him for the tournament final stage.
Lauris Karavics and Ronalds Mezals lose first games in groups.
Sergejs Balan, Juris Aleksans, Egils Vitols and Kaspars Abramenko won first game in group but lose the second. On second round of groups Juris Aleksans lose to Jarko Komula (FIN) and Sergejs Balan lose to Martin Atkins (ENG).
Women`s singles (57 players):
At women`s competition playes only Ligita Vilks. Ligita won first game in group 3-1 and second 3-2, but lose at group final. Ligita Vilks take 9th place at Finish open.
Men`s pair (80 pairs):
Men`s pair competition was realy successful for Zanis Buklovskis and Ronalds Mezals. They take 5th place like world champion Jelle Klaasen and Michael van Gerven from Holland.
1st group round they don`t have oponent and was on group semifinal where they win 3-0 with no doubt. On group final they made impressive comeback from 0-2 winning the group final 3-2.
After group final they won very intense game against some Finnish players 3-2 and qualifies to quarter-final where they lose to some Swedish pair who at the final stay on 2nd place for men`s pair competition.
Kaspars Abramenko and Egils Vitols won first two games but lose on group final they take 17th place. Juris Aleksans and Sergejs Balan lose their first game in group 2-3. Lauris Karavics plays in pair with some Finnish player but this combination wasn`t successful too and they lost first game 1-3.
Women`s pair (24 pairs):
At women`s pair Ligita Vilks play with newbie Ieva Brikmane (start play darts about month ago). They lose first game.
